NGC281 – The Pacman Nebula

The Pacman Nebula (NGC 281), named because of it’s resemblance to the video game character, is located in the constellation Cassiopeia. It was discovered by E.E. Barnard in August 1883.

A workshop of star formation, the Pacman nebula is about 4,100 light years away.

The subject image is an integration of 6 exposures (10 minutes each at ISO 800) taken on September 15, 2018 at the Menke Observatory site, north of Dixon, Iowa.
