    Create a personal Photo Gallery!

Once logged in you will notice a black bar at the top of the site. In the left corner it says Quad Cities Astronomical Society. Hover over that then click on Dashboard in the drop down menu.

The Dashboard is where you can contribute to the website! To make a gallery, scroll over Gallery then select Add Gallery / Images in the menu.

This opens the NexGen Gallery plugin for WordPress. You will be able to create galleries for you posts to the Meridan News or for use in the forums. For this tutorial, I would like you to create a Gallery of your own astronomy images to be featured in the Members Photo Gallery section of the website.

When opening NexGen Gallery, the default creation method is set you to upload your own images.

Click on Add Files (or drag files from a folder to the field below) to start building your gallery.

Once you’ve added the images you want to use. Click on start upload. You will see the progress of each file on the right side. The upload speed is relative to your internet speed. If you notice that it’s taking a long time to upload an image, check the file size of the image.
DO NOT upload RAW image files. These are freaking huge(!) and may not be displayed properly anyway. Be sure to upload good high resolution jpegs instead.

Now that the upload is complete, click on Manage Galleries in the menu on the left. This is a listing of all galleries on the website. The ones that are greyed out have been uploaded by other users and cannot be accessed from a contributor’s account so don’t worry about messing anything up. Simply scroll to the bottom to find the latest galleries. All of the galleries you create will be listed in GREEN and you can edit them.

When you’ve uploaded a user gallery, the Admins need to know about it so that we can add it to the Member Photos section of the website. To notify us, send an email to myself and Mike Ombrello and we will get it done as quickly as possible. Once we have created your link on the Member Photos section, you will be able to add images to it that will automatically post to the web. No need to contact us about managing you gallery once it’s published.

So c’mon! Show off your stuff!
